Alright, I know that it is hard for celebrities to keep secrets, and that there have been lots of sites that post facts. Many of these “lost facts” have become well known, but some still remain rare. For instance, you probably know that Mariah Carey was nicknamed “Mirage” in high school because she was never at class, but did you know that Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake were roommates once. I still managed to find some new things that you may not have heard before.
Most people have heard that Jamie Foxx’s 2nd grade teacher used to reward the class by letting them watch him do his little standup act, and many know that Beyonce does perfume commercials even though she is severely allergic but did you know that the companies chemically alter the perfume so she doesn’t have a reaction to it. That always seemed strange to me since who would know if it was a commercial. Anyway, I think you get the idea. There may just be some facts still to learn, and I tried to uncover some in the following list.
Fact: Turned down for the role of Adrian Balboa.
Explanation: Sarandon wanted the role of Adrian Balboa in “Rocky” but when she tried, they felt she was too attractive to play Rocky’s love interest. The part was given, of course, to Francis Ford Coppola’s sister, Talia. Coppola has a tendency to cast relatives, but in this case he was spot-on with the choice.
Fact: Once sang about an actor who he shares a role with.
Explanation: Crowe plays Superman’s dad in the new film “The Man of Steel”, which was once played by Marlon Brando. The funny fact is that in the 1980s, under the alias “Rus le Roq,” Crowe recorded a song titled “I Want to Be Like Marlon Brando.”
Fact: Deaf in one ear since childhood
Explanation: Though you can’t really tell, a virus Lowe contracted when he was a boy, left him completely deaf in his right ear.
Fact: He got a special treat from his parents, when he was 11.
Explanation: This one is just cute. The “Harry Potter” star talks of when he first heard that he got the lead role in the films, when he was 11 years old. He says the day he got the call he was in the bathtub, and when his parents heard, he was allowed to stay up an extra half hour, so he could watch “Fawlty Towers.” (a very funny British comedy starring John Cleese)
Fact: She had a major, and memorable, audition loss in 1993
Explanation: 1993 was a golden year for Mickey Mouse Club auditions. Most have heard about Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, but did you know that Jessica Simpson also tried out for the show but she panicked after she saw Christina’s audition. She said that she just froze-up and forgot everything. She lost out to both as we all know.
Fact: Has a twin brother
Explanation: Looking at the photo, I’m not sure what surprised me more—the news that Diesel had a twin, or the fact that he looks like a hairy version of Vin, in a perpetual state of shock. I couldn’t find any information on this guy, which could be an important fact itself.
Fact: Named after a department store
Explanation: Yes, apparently this is true. She was born Maria Halle Berry, her parents chose her middle name—which she eventually chose as her stage name—as a tribute to local landmark in Cleveland, Ohio. “Halle’s Department Store” had stood there for many years.
Fact: Made a bizarre request of his parents
Explanation: When recalling his childhood, Cooper was quoted as saying: “I thought only ninjas understood the meaning of life and death, so I begged my father to send me to Japan until I was 21, so I could train to become a ninja.” (Reuters) Strange, but interesting man.
Fact: Steven Spielberg had problems with her Playboy spread.
Explanation: You may remember, as I do, when Drew posed for Playboy. It was in the last stapled issue in 1995, a collector’s item. However, did you know that Steven Spielberg—whether really upset, I don’t know—sent a note to her that told her she should cover herself up.
He sent it along with a quilt and a copy of her layout with all the pictures made to appear like she was fully clothed. BONUS FACT: Drew is also the youngest person to host “Saturday Night Live”. She made the appearance in 1982 after her role in “Firestarter”—she was 7.
Fact: He wore tap shoes to bed
Explanation: This one only reinforces my opinion of what a strange, but funny, man Carey is. When he was a boy, Jim would wear tap shoes to bed. This was, apparently, for his parents in case they needed some cheering up in the middle of the night.
Fact: Holds a “Star Search” record.
Explanation: Usher wowed everyone with his amazing performances on the TV show. Even at the young age of 13, he sang to the girls in the audience and kissed their hands. It was his singing that impressed people the most, though, and Usher still held the Star Search record for the longest note held by a child on the show, when it folded. He held the single note for 12.1 seconds.
Fact: Granted a dying child’s wish
Explanation: This story changed my view of this gangster-rapper, who’s “hard” side was what the fans usually saw. In 1993, parents of a terminally ill young boy, named Joshua, wrote from Maryland to tell Tupac that it was the child’s last wish to meet his favorite rapper in person.
Tupac immediately dropped what he was doing to fly there and grant Joshua’s wish. They went to a basketball game together, and when the boy finally passed, Shakur changed his publishing company’s name from “Ghetto Gospel Music” to “Joshua’s Dream.”
OK, just one more. You might have heard that Harrison Ford made his living as a carpenter prior to Star Wars, but did you know that he was actually discovered for the role of “Han Solo” while fixing a door at the movie studio? Well, I hope I was able to surprise you a little, and maybe you learned a few things that you didn’t know before.
Of course, it’s not like this knowledge is going to help you save the world or anything, but it’s still fun. What do you think? Don’t forget to post your comments.
